Complaints Procedures

Complaints against the Parish Council [as a corporate body]

The complaints procedure (opposite) shall be adopted for dealing with complaints about the Council’s administration or its procedures. Complaints about a policy decision made by the Council will be referred back to the Council, or relevant Committee, as appropriate, for consideration. This procedure does not cover complaints about the conduct of an individual member of the Council who may have breached the council’s Code of Conduct.

Complaints against an individual member of the Council [Breach of Code of Conduct]

Any person can make a complaint that a councillor has breached the Parish Council’s adopted Code of Conduct. Such a complaint should in the first instance be reported to the Monitoring Officer at South Somerset District Council, The Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil BA20 2HT, who can offer advice and further details on this process. You can email these requests to Ian Clerk or contact him on 01935 462462 for further information or advice. It will then be considered by a sub committee of the District Council’s Standards Committee, who will decide whether the matter should be investigated.Much of the Code of Conduct relies on individual members of the council to make judgements. When in doubt, Councillors are advised to discuss the issue with the Clerk, the Somerset Association of Local Councils (SALC) or the District Council’s Monitoring Officer.
